Challis Pulotu is from Papua New Guinea, Fiji and Samoa and is an early-career researcher and PhD candidate at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. His doctoral study is through an International Macquarie Research Excellence Scholarship (iMQRES) with industry partners the New South Wales Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (NSW DCCEEW) and Yuwalaraay custodians focusing on collaborating with Yuwalaraay Aboriginal People to co-design cultural mapping and a seasonal calendar integrating climate change impacts at Narran Lake Nature Reserve (Dharriwaa).
Challis has worked for six years at Pacific Adventist University (PAU) as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, Associate lecturer and Lecturer from 2019 to July, 2024. His work is focused on guiding Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK), conservation biology, agricultural research development and extension strategies, policy aspirations for a sustainable future and inspiring other young Pacific Islanders to contribute.
