The ISC-led external evaluation report of the first work programme of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) is now available online in the UN’s six official languages. The report will be presented at the 7th Plenary of IPBES on Monday 29 April 2019 at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France.
The ISC led a multidisciplinary expert panel to review the IPBES Platform.
The Review Panel noted that IPBES has, in the seven years since its formal establishment and five years of active work, garnered considerable achievements to its name in the area of knowledge advancement in biodiversity and ecosystem services, despite an under-funded budget that is insufficient to support its ambitious but over-committed work programme. The Panel also made a number of recommendations for the 7th Plenary to consider including with regards to strengthening the policy relevance of the Platform’s work.
The IPBES plenary will take place between 29 April and 4 May 2019. Information for the meeting can be found here.
