Food Futures Young Scientists Networking Conference at Lake Como

Early career scientists from all over the world gathered last week at Villa Vigoni on Lake Como for a networking conference on integrated science organized by the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the International Social Science Council (ISSC), in cooperation with the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).

Thirty early career scientists came together with senior scientists from a wide range of scientific fields from April 15-19, all united by a common interest in how to feed the world of the future.

Convened by Mary Scholes from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, the event brought together both natural and social scientists in a beautiful setting by Italy’s Lake Como. It included keynotes from senior scientists looking at the main challenges facing researchers working on the food challenges of the future. Different formats were used to generate discussion and new ideas, ranging from speed dating to world cafe exercises.

This was the first in a series of three conferences, the next one scheduled for May 2014, so be sure to follow this page or our Twitter account for updates on the next Call for Applications.
