At the 2017 annual South African Science Forum, held in Pretoria from 7-8 December, ICSU Executive Director Heide Hackmann received an award for her role in the merger of the Council and the International Social Science Council, which was regarded as strengthening international science for multilateral decision making. The South African Science Forum was the third such event, attracting over 2000 researchers, academics, and scientists. The forum was held under the theme ‘Igniting conversation about science’.
