International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS)

IUPsyS is a founding member of the International Science Council, having been previously active in both ICSU and the ISSC.

IUPsyS traces its origins to the very first International Congress of Psychology (ICP) held in 1889 in Paris during the centennial celebrations of the French Revolution. The flagship event in international psychology, an ICP is held every four years, attracting an average of over 8,000 academics, researchers, practitioners and students from across the globe.

IUPsyS holds consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, formal associate relations with UNESCO, and is a member of the UN DPI NGO. IUPsyS maintains official relations with the World Health Organization (WHO).

The IUPsyS mission is to develop, represent and advance psychology as a basic and applied science nationally, regionally, and internationally. IUPsyS has 93 National Members, 7 Regional Members and 19 Affiliates, which includes representative regional federations and international disciplinary associations.

The International Journal of Psychology (IJP), inaugurated in 1966 and published every second month, advances psychological research of interest and relevance for the human condition around the world, providing internationally relevant basic and applied research in all areas of psychology.
