The Academia Nacional de Ciencias (ANC) in Bolivia was founded in 1960 as a “guiding institution of state activity to promote research, dignify scientists and disseminate their work”.
According to the current statute, its objectives are:
The group of academics is indefinite in number and efforts are made for gender equity.
Apart from being a member of the International Science Council, the ANC is also a member of the Inter-American Association of Academies of Sciences (IANAS), the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP), the International Foundation for Science (IFS), among others.
In 2023, Dr. Monica Moraes from the Bolivian National Academy of Sciences was nominated and appointed via the ISC to the United Nations Environmnt Programme’s Multidisciplinary Expert Scientific Advisory Group (MESAG), which is responsible for advising the scientific credibility of the seventh edition of the Global Environment Outlook (GEO-7) assessment.

The National Academy of Sciences of Bolivia has been a Member of the International Science Council since since 1978.
