The Royal Irish Academy has been a member since 1952.

The Royal Irish Academy (RIA), founded in 1785, is Ireland’s leading body of experts supporting and promoting the sciences and humanities.

As an all-island independent forum made up of approximately 650 Members – chosen for their distinguished contributions to scholarship and research in the sciences, humanities, social sciences and public service – the RIA recognise world-class researchers and scholars, and champions Irish academic research.

The RIA makes a significant contribution to public debate and policy formation on issues in science, technology and culture. It brings together academia, government and industry to address issues of mutual interest by providing an independent forum. It leads on important national research projects, particularly in areas relating to Ireland and its heritage. The RIA represents the world of Irish learning internationally, have a unique globally recognised library and are a leading academic publisher
