Future Earth is pleased to announce that Dr Carolina Vera will join the Science Committee.
Dr Carolina Vera, who is the Director of the Center for Atmosphere and Ocean Sciences (CIMA) and UMI/IFAECI, a joint institute with the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), Argentina’s National Council of Sciences (CONICET) and CNRS (France), will join the Future Earth Science Committee effective immediately.
At the same time, Future Earth regrets to announce that Jane Lubchenco will be stepping down.
“It is with great regret that I will be stepping down from the Future Earth Science Committee because of a number of conflicting professional and personal commitments. I am pleased with the appointment of Dr Carolina Vera and am confident that she will make an outstanding contribution to Future Earth,” said Lubchenco, who is Valley Professor of Marine Biology at Oregon State University.
“I am fully supportive of the direction and goals of Future Earth, and I look forward to following, albeit from afar, the results of your hard work on re-inventing the interdisciplinary scientific effort required to put the planet on a better trajectory.”
Lubchenco was from 2009-2013 the Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
