Dr. Oliver Pérez, President of the Latin American Association of Immunology, visited El Salvador to give several lectures to medical school students and government agencies on a variety of topics regarding Immunology.
The ISC ROLAC office invited Dr. Oliver Pérez, who is the President of the Latin American Association of Immunology, this past August 13th to August 15th. Dr. Pérez hosted several lectures, the first one being about “Immunology in pre and postgraduate and Psychoneuroendocrinoimmunology as a regulatory supra-system”, which happened at the Rosales National Hospital in San Salvador. It was attended by medicine students, and other doctors in the hospital. On his second day, he hosted a lecture called “Immunology in Latin America and the world and Psychoneuroendocrinoimmunology as a regulatory supra-system” in a joint effort with the Ministry of Health and the National Institute of Health(INS) at INS’ headquarters. On the afternoon of the same day, he hosted a Q&A session with the participants of the lecture. Lastly, he had another lecture at the University of El Salvador(UES) called “Dynamics of the immune response as the law of Immunology, Immunology as a preventive and trans-disciplinary science”, which was attended by UES’ medicine students and faculty members.
About Dr. Oliver Pérez
Dr, Pérez was born on October 11, 1951, in Sancti-Spíritus, Cuba.. He received his Medical doctor degree in 1977 from Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de La Habana, in Cuba. He specialized in Immunology in 1980 from Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de La Habana, and received his PhD also from Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de La Habana in 1998. When it comes to teaching, he has been Professor of Immunology since 1977 and Professor of Microbiology, since 1986, both at his alma mater of Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de La Habana, among other stints. Currently, he is the Head of Immunology Department and President of Scientific Council at ICBP “Victoria de Girón”, Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de La Habana. He is the President of Cuban Society for Immunology, Vicepresident of ALAI (Latin-American association of Immunology) 2015-2018, President of ALAI 2018-2021, and Member of Cuban Academic of Sciences.
