The International Science Council (ISC) is inviting two early-career journalists from the Middle East with a strong interest in science policy to cover the Muscat Global Knowledge Dialogue, taking place in the framework of the Third ISC General Assembly.
The Muscat Global Knowledge Dialogue takes place in Oman on 27–28 January 2025. This event provides a unique opportunity for reporters to hear debates on pressing global science-policy issues and engage directly with international leaders in science and policy.
We are looking for journalists with a talent for crafting engaging and impactful stories on major science–society topics that will convey the essence of the key discussions and outcomes of the event. These stories will be featured across ISC’s communication channels, giving the selected journalists visibility in the field of international science and policy reporting.
Opportunity for journalists
This partnership offers a unique opportunity for early-career reporters to:
- Participate in discussions on international science and policy: Get access to all sessions and discussions on issues intersecting science, policy, and society.
- Conduct high-profile interviews: Engage directly with some of the world’s foremost experts and thought leaders.
- Produce high-impact stories for global audiences: Their stories will be featured across ISC platforms, offering exceptional exposure to an international audience of scientists, policymakers, and stakeholders.
- Gain international experience in science communication: By working closely with the ISC Communications Team, journalists will enhance their reporting skills, meet professional editorial standards, and experience global communication practices firsthand.
Expectations of journalists
- Develop two in-depth stories: Each journalist will be responsible for crafting two stories of 500-1,000 words on pre-agreed topics that highlight key discussions and outcomes of the event.
- Collaborate with the ISC Team: Selected journalists will work closely with the ISC Communications Team to ensure their content meets ISC’s needs and editorial standards.
What ISC provides
- Full access and accreditation: Journalists will receive complimentary access to the Muscat Global Knowledge Dialogue.
- Editorial support: The ISC Communications Team will provide comprehensive guidance on story ideas, interviews, and final copy to ensure alignment with ISC’s communication objectives.
- Coverage of travel and accommodation expenses.
- Honorarium of EUR 700 (EUR 350 per story).
