Science and communications internship at the ISC

The International Science Council works at the intersection of science and policy, ensuring that scientific knowledge is integrated into international policy development, while also addressing the needs of science in policy frameworks. As co-convenor of the Scientific and Technological Major Group and through strong partnerships with various UN Secretariats, agencies, and Member States, the ISC actively engages in a range of intergovernmental processes and events at the UN. A key focus for 2025 is the UN Ocean Conference (2025 UNOC), for which the ISC is preparing an active engagement in the deliberations.

To support these efforts, particularly the engagement at the 2025 UNOC, the ISC is seeking a Science and Communications Intern to join its team in Paris, France, for a six-month internship starting in early January. The intern will be part of the ISC’s Global Science-Policy Unit and work closely with the Communications team.

Key contributions

  • Assist ISC project managers and teams in coordinating science-policy activities, including helping to plan expert group meetings, prepare materials, and take meeting notes;
  • Conduct desk research, summarize recent publications, and provide analysis;
  • Assist in the planning and execution of events, including virtual;
  • Draft content for news pieces, blogs, and newsletters;
  • Support the team with various ad-hoc tasks related to campaigns, projects, events, and media.

Skills and qualifications

  • Interest in science-policy and science communications;
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills;
  • Excellent writing and storytelling abilities, with the capability to create engaging written and visual content for diverse audiences;
  • Basic graphic design skills, with experience in formatting and designing documents; ability to create visual assets for digital and print materials is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and proficiency in Canva and WordPress, are an advantage;
  • Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of French is a plus.
