Bruce Ovbiagele

ISC Fellow (2023)

Bruce Ovbiagele, MD MSc MAS, MBA, MLS is a vascular neurologist and global health equity scholar. He is Professor of Neurology and Associate Dean at the University of California, San Francisco, and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the American Heart Association. He leads several National Institutes of Health sponsored programs focused on improving stroke outcomes among disparate populations, as well as mentoring/training early career scholars. So far, his various research activities have contributed to the scientific knowledge base with >630 peer review publications. His work has been recognized with multiple awards/honors from several organizations including the World Stroke Organization, American College of Physicians, National Medical Association, American Academy of Neurology, American Brain Foundation, American Heart Association, and American Stroke Association.

He was Chair of the International Stroke Conference (2016-2018) and founding chair of the African Stroke Organization Conference. Dr. Ovbiagele is an elected fellow of International Science Council, The World Academy of Sciences, World Stroke Organization, American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Heart Association, and American Academy of Neurology. He is an elected member of the United States National Academy of Medicine, as well as a Board Director of the World Stroke Organization and American Academy of Neurology.
