Dr. E. William Colglazier is Editor-in-Chief of Science & Diplomacy and Senior Scholar in the Center for Science Diplomacy at the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He was the fourth Science and Technology Adviser to the Secretary of State from 2011 to 2014. From 1994 to 2011 he was Executive Officer of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and National Research Council.

He received his Ph.D. in theoretical physics from Caltech, and worked at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, the Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, and the University of Tennessee. In 2015 he received from the American Physical Society the Joseph A. Burton Forum Award for “outstanding contributions to the public understanding or resolution of issues involving the interface of physics and society” and from the Government of Japan the Order of the Rising Sun for “contributing to science and technology exchange and mutual understanding between Japan and the United States.”

From 2016 to 2018, he was co-chair of the Ten Member Group appointed by the U.N. Secretary General to advise on science, technology, and innovation for advancing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
