Javier García-Martínez

Professor of Inorganic Chemistry and Director of the Molecular Nanotechnology Laboratory at the University of Alicante, Spain.
President of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), where he introduced important changes such as the creation of the Scientific and Executive Boards, the integration of the International Younger Chemists Network (IYCN) and the creation of the Presidents’ Forum.
President and co-founder of the Young Academy of Spain, created by the Spanish government in 2019 and composed of 50 outstanding young researchers.
Founder of Rive Technology, a technology-based company commercializing nanostructured catalysts that reduce millions of tons of CO2 per year while increasing energy efficiency. In 2019, Grace acquired this technology and is now commercializing it globally.
His contributions to catalysis, energy and chemistry have been recognized with some of the most prestigious awards, including Young Global Leader, 2009 – World Economic Forum, Innovator of the Year, 2007 – MIT, Emerging Researcher Award, 2015 and Kathryn C. Hach Award for Entrepreneurial Success, 2018 – American Chemical Society, King James I Award, 2014, Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, 2007 and the American Chemical Society, 2021, and National Research Award, 2023, from the Government of Spain.
