Jun Chen

Jun Chen is a Leading Scientist on geomatics at Chinese Ministry of Natural Resources. He was a GIS professor at Wuhan Technical University in early 1990s and then became the president of National Geomatics Center of China. He has led the establishment and annual updating of national 1:50,000 topographic databases, the development of the world’s first 30-m global land cover map, GlobeLand30, and the first comprehensive measurement of the progress toward SDGs at a local county with geospatial and statistical information.

He has served as the president of the International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS), and president of Chinese Association of GISs. His work has put China forward to become one of the leading countries in the field of surveying and geoinformation in the world. During his 40 year’s professional career, Chen Jun has published more than 300 publications and 4 books, and received a number of international and national scientific awards. He was elected as an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2019 and a honorary member of ISPRS in 2022.
