Background

Prior to her current role, Christiane held the position of Executive Director of Ceres, at the University of Cologne. Since 2017 she has been Chair of the European Group on Ethics in Science and New Technologies, which advises the European Commission. From April 2012 to April 2016, she was Chair of the German Ethics Council. From 2014 to 2016 she held the position of President of the 11th Global Summit of National Ethics/Bioethics Committees and is a Member of the International Bioethics Committee of UNESCO as well as Co-Spokeswoman of the German Federal Government’s Data Ethics Commission. Woopen is a Member of the Academia Europaea. In 2017 she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class.
