We are delighted to announce that the Members of the Liaison Committee for the Regional Focal Point for Latin America and the Caribbean of the International Science Council have been appointed following a call for nominations from ISC Members and a thorough selection process in the first half of 2022.
The Liaison Committee will provide advice and guidance on the activities of the Regional Focal Point, which is based at the Colombian Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences.
‘All the members of this Committee are renowned scientists in their areas of expertise and have played a very active role in the dissemination of science in the region. The essential tasks and responsibilities of the team include mobilizing active and continuous regional engagement of ISC Members in the region, ensuring strong representation and participation of regional scientists and scientific institutions in the Council´s activities and programmes, widening the ISC community by increasing the ISC’s membership base, and strengthening outreach efforts in the region.’

The first meeting of the Liaison Committee was held online on 21 July 2022, and a set of activities will be announced soon. Speaking during the first meeting, ISC Science Director and Acting CEO, Mathieu Denis, stressed the importance of close collaboration between the ISC HQ in Paris and the Regional Focal Point, and of learning from the Committee’s experience in order to strengthen the Council’s presence on the continent.
