🚩 Irina Bokova: Closing Address
The ISC and UNESCO have co-organized a conference aiming to raise awareness about the importance of scientific freedom and responsibility, and promote efforts to strengthen its implementation.
Scientific freedom and responsibility are key requirements for promoting the quality of scientific endeavour and consolidating trust in science and thereby for achieving the 2030 Agenda. Yet, much remains to be done to elucidate their content and develop comprehensive implementation.

Over the last few years, and particularly during the pandemic, ISC Members have expressed interest in a mid-term meeting between General Assemblies. The President, Peter Gluckman on behalf of the Governing Board, and the CEO, Salvatore Aricò on behalf of the ISC Secretariat, were delighted to welcome representatives of ISC Members and Affiliated Bodies, as well as special guests to this Mid-term meeting, an in-person networking event to strengthen ISC Member relationships and discuss global developments for science as well as needs and priorities of Members and the ISC.
Representatives of ISC Members and ISC Affiliated Bodies were invited to this in-person event which forms part of the ISC Global Knowledge Dialogue series. It was the first occasion for all ISC Members to meet in person since the founding General Assembly in 2018 and an important opportunity for Members to network, share needs and learning, and discuss the strategic and organizational objectives of the ISC.
Please note this was not an ISC General Assembly and no voting was conducted.
