The ISC’s Committee for Freedom and Responsibility in Science (CFRS) is the guardian of the Principle of Freedom and Responsibility in Science, which is enshrined in Statute 7 of the ISC Statutes and Rules of Procedure. CFRS works to uphold and protect the freedoms that scientists should enjoy and the responsibilities they carry while engaging in scientific practice. This includes monitoring and responding to threats to scientific freedoms around the world, and advising on responsible practice in challenging contexts.

In this edition of the knowledge sharing series for ISC Members, ISC President and CFRS Chair Professor Daya Reddy, CFRS Vice-Chair Professor Saths Cooper, CFRS Executive Secretary Vivi Stavrou and CFRS Special Advisor Frances Vaughan will describe the ways in which the committee responds to threats to scientific freedom and will introduce some of the current cases. In addition, the speakers will highlight the ways in which ISC Members can engage with and contribute to the work of the committee.

All staff members, office bearers and representatives of organizations that are part of the ISC membership are invited to participate in these online meetings to learn more about the work of the CFRS, ask questions and engage with the speakers around this important subject. The content of the two sessions will be similar, and we are offering two different time slots to accommodate different time zones.
